Sydney at a Glance:
11 Months Old – [12/6 wk 48] – Happy 11-month birthday! Sydney is a busy body – constantly wanting to be moving and exploring. [12/13 wk 49] – Sydney is just growing and learning! She met Santa Claus for the first time and cried initially but then was OK. [12/20 wk 50] – Sydney is moving out of the “stranger danger” phase and is much better with others people holding her and baby-sitting her. She chews on toys. She likes to stand and bounce in the bathtub. Sydney had her first Christmas and loves boxes or toys still in the box. She smiles at everyone. She has a great laugh! She is becoming picky with food – doesn’t like rice or pasta. She had her first donut run with Daddy & Seoul. [12/27 wk 51] – Sydney has discovered pushing the buttons on her puppy and dollies to make the music. She wants to see everything and do what Seoul does. She goes from toy to toy. She’s such a happy girl! She tries to put her shoes on her feet and her hat on her head. She sticks out her arms & legs to get dressed. Now she’s really getting into walking with assistance. Sydney is a good eater of veggies - she loves peas! Sydney saw her first movie in the theater for New Years Eve – Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked – she was enthralled and discovered she loves popcorn. [1/3 wk 52] – Sydney says ‘daddy’ and points to his picture on the wall; She can say ‘mommy’ referring to me. She is very easy going with schedules and routines and staying home vs going out. She has a cheesy, squishy face “horse” smile. She is very adventurous. Her personality is really starting to shine and she points to what she wants. She is learning to drink from a sippy cup by herself but she prefers cups or straws. Big milestone – she has started walking while holding on to Seoul’s bike or a tricycle at play group or the little shopping cart.
10 Months Old – [11/8 wk 44] In the bath Sydney has no problem crawling, rolling, and getting her face wet – water baby! She doesn’t mind sitting on grass, cement, hay, etc. Her crying streaks have calmed a bit but when she does cry it is a super high pitched scream. Crawling is a cinch. Now it’s pulling herself up on furniture (ie easel, coffee table, chairs, etc) and cruising around. Happy 10-month birthday. Sydney has started pointing to things that she likes or wants. At a follow-up appt for weight, she is healthy! Now she weighs 17 lb 3 oz. She still loves her food – favorites are toast, yogurt, and chicken. [11/15 wk 45]Sydney crawls, cruises, and is always trying to stand on her own. A couple times she has stood freely for a few seconds. She smiles and laughs frequently, especially at Seoul. She loves to bang things together or slap her hand on the table to make noise. Now she has 4 teeth - two on top, two on bottom. She makes all kinds of funny faces, sticks out her tongue, and blows raspberries with her lips. [11/22
wk 46] – Sydney is sleeping longer at night, started dropping the early AM
nursing. She is everywhere as she
crawls around and makes messes everywhere
! 1st Thanksgiving! She ate lots of yummies and of course everyone
shared dessert with her. No “no sugary stuff until 1st birthday”
rule for her J [11/29 wk 47] – Sydney is Miss Social and makes
friends everywhere, drawing them in with her expressions and personality. She
doesn’t hesitate to roam away from me (within a certain distance). She loves
seeing Kelley’s picture on the phone when he calls and “kisses” it [still in
the licking for kisses stage]. She has completely dropped the 3rd
nap as of a couple weeks ago so she sleeps OK at night with two solid daytime
naps. She is learning to put herself back to sleep with the “cry it out” method
in the pack ‘n play at night – a severe cold got her into the habit of waking
and needing to be comforted at night.
8 Months Old - [Week 35] Sydney rolls over to her tummy then freaks out because she won’t roll back to her back (even though she is capable of doing it). Sleeping is a bit rough this week… teething…? She loves playing in the water, whether it’s the fountain at the park or the bath tub. Sydney had her first trip to the beach and has no qualms with sand – she had a ball playing in it! She is such a chill baby 98% of the time. Happy 8-month birthday! She always looks around for Seoul when she’s in the other room or napping. [Week 36] Sydney says “mama” and “dada” a lot! She sure does scoot around on her bum and tummy. Now she sleeps on her tummy and it looks so cute! She was introduced to Cheerios and loves ‘em! She is so content &; happy &; independent &; self-entertains so well. Loud noises &; abrupt movements make her giggle &; smile. Now she waves her arm (side to side) and says what sounds like ‘hi’. She claps more often. [Week 37] Sydney is good with others holding her now (whew!). She is SO LOUD when she does cry… sometimes it scares Seoul. Sydney is good about going to sleep on her own. Her nap schedule is pretty consistent every day. She had a cold and she hates when I use the nose bulb on her… she is pretty strong! She likes to bang things together (or hands on the table) to make noise. [Week 38] Sydney had her first ‘laughing fit’ – laughed over and over when Seoul &; Kelley yelled “PAPA!” She is still just close to crawling and great at reaching, and getting, her toys. She’s discovering that toys do things (ie noise or lights). She can stand up against the couch or Seoul’s bed pretty solidly. Sydney got her first dress-up outfit from Sherril (Belle dress), and likes to pick at the glitter. She can sit up from laying on her tummy.

1 YEAR OLD!! -
Sydney loves cake and frosting. She has such a sweet tooth since Seoul loves to
share everything with her! She has started walking holding both our hands. Her favorite food is Cheerios. She loves her blanket and dropping on
the floor to cuddle with it. Part of her bedtime routine involves
giving/getting kisses from a ceramic Belle and Beast. She’s not super
interested in books but she loves the popper toy. The week after she turned one
she initiated the use of her signs: ‘more’ ‘please’ ‘thank you’ ‘milk’. She now
has 8 teeth – four on top, four on bottom, with two more on top close to

9 Months Old - [Week 39] Sydney is 9-months old!! She is healthy and strong. Well-baby appt: 15 lbs 13 oz, 27-1/4” long. She LOVES her table food and eating the same foods we do! She uses thumb/index finger half the time and fist half the time to eat. She claps or waves &; says ‘hi’ constantly. She can bend down and pick things up. Her understanding of object permanence is developing. She thinks it’s funny to play peek-a-boo. [Week 40] Sydney smiles at everyone! She is so social. She makes this funny squealing noise (sucks air in and makes a high pitch squeal). She is perfectly content to lay on her back sometimes, perfectly still. Teething – top teeth coming in…? (not sleeping well). [Week 41] Sydney stood alone for a few seconds by herself! (10/19) She might know the sign for “all done.” She scoots around very well. Now she is all about pulling herself up with my hands, not crawling so much. Sydney is my messy one – food everywhere, plate on top of head, etc. She has discovered she can cross her fingers. Her sleep at night is 9.5-10 hours between dinner & early morning feeding. Sydney is a full-on crawler… the back massager Happy Hands was her motivation! [Week 42] Sydney had her first “sweet treat” – Seoul shared a sucker and an oreo with her on different occasions. She torments Seoul by taking Seoul’s books. She’s already moving on to trying to stand by herself – Downward Dog position. She enjoys free-standing at the coffee table and playing. Sydney is healthy and happy! She loves people! She claps, including when I ask her to. She loves to play in the bath tub with Seoul. 1st Halloween… all dressed-up as Princess Belle. [Week 43] The crib was lowered two levels in two nights since she has started consistently pulling herself up to stand. Sydney has discovered crawling takes her from room to room in the house. She is quite adventurous and crawls all over the library pulling books off the shelf and the cushion pile over. She is still very sociable and smiles at everyone. Teething makes her nights difficult because now she wakes often again. At church Sydney likes to “sing” with the hymns. She’s pretty loud during Sacrament Meeting.

7 Months Old - [Week 31] When Sydney hears music she “sings” along. Her fussiness with others is coming to an end (hopefully!), although she’s not such a fan of Uncle Evan Rolling from back to front she has mastered but refuses to roll front to back (although she can). Happy 7-month birthday! She still loves to stand and twists around to see everything. She’s such a happy girl! [Week 32] She’s a good eater! She loves all her veggies and doesn’t hesitate to let me know she wants more! She constantly blows raspberries and sticks out her tongue! Her sense of humor is really starting to show – giggles a lot at various things. Seoul can always make her giggle by running back and forth around her. [Week 33] Sydney’s a mover! She face plants trying to get in a forward position, and has mastered scooting herself backward. After naps she’s always facing a different direction. The two bottom teeth have made an appearance! This week she has been into clapping and waving. Her first taste of animal crackers was yummy! [Week 34] Sydney is on the verge of crawling and can pull herself up on short furniture/toys… gets herself in some awkward positions. She has no qualms with touching animals (especially Grandma Salway’s dog Charlie). Officially she’s in 6-9 month clothes, size 3 diapers, and is really slimming down and lengthening out. She can do the sign for “more” (we think).
6 Months Old - [Week 26] Sydney has no problem sitting in, standing on, or playing with grass. She loves to give kisses these days – open-mouth, sometimes licking my bottom lip. Happy 6th month birthday! Well-baby apt: 15 lbs 11 oz, 26-1/4” long! Her hair is getting so full! Her eyes are darkening but are still more hazel/brown. [Week 27] Sydney has really discovered her hands &; her ears this week! She has been better about others holding her briefly. At story time she really likes when I help her do motions to the action songs. First veggie: peas – loves them! Second veggie: lima beans – eats them. [Week 28] Sydney’s feedings are spacing out with the addition of solids. She’s pretty scheduled with her nap times these days, which makes for a happy girl (3x day)! She likes cinnamon in her rice cereal. She is learning to pick up and eat the Graduates puffy snacks! Her gums are getting some bumps so maybe teeth soon…? She still chews on EVERYTHING. [Week 29] She is really starting to be aware when I leave the room and will stare at the door until I come back. As soon as she gets up from sleeping she looks around for Seoul… and gives her a huge grin! Sometimes she “fights” back and pulls on Seoul’s hair (revenge for her smothering love??). Sydney loves water! Baths in the big bath tub are fun with splashing and laying on her back and playing with the toys. Her first swimming experience was great – had so much fun and didn’t mind the splashing in the face. Her first trip to the Zoo! [Week 30] She tried cutting out that third nap of the day but then went back to it. She’s a good napper, semi-good sleeper (9-10 hours a night still with a couple wakings for the binkie). Her hair is getting longer and fuller… looking real dark. The eyes are officially brown now. Sounds like she says “mama” and “dada.” She is really getting into story time – listening to the books, rhymes, and likes touch-and-feel books.
5 Months Old - [Week 22] Sydney is starting to be picky about naps… she only goes to sleep if she’s in her own bed. She’s a very content child that entertains herself much of the time. Since she has become more interested in our food we started rice cereal (6/7) and she loves it! She still sucks on everything she can get her hands on… teething? She quickly discovered how to walk around in the standing play toy. Bath time is still in the infant tub but is now placed in the big bath tub with Seoul so they can “play.” She cut her first tooth – bottom left incisor (?)! Happy 5-month birthday! She loves to blow raspberries with her mouth. [Week 23] Sydney sleeps well 8:00 PM – 5:00 AM but wakes a couple times in the night to be soothed. She is getting more and more social and smiles a lot (but not for the camera). She doesn’t coo as much lately but laughs a lot more. Now she has a funny “mmmm” cry. She is starting to get into “reading” touch &; feel books. [Week 24] Sydney an official “sitter” now! She can sit up and play with her toys for solid amounts of time. She continues to roll at random times but nothing consistent. Her toes are becoming a favorite toy – when she’s sitting or on her back. These days she’s pretty opinionated about what she wants and likes. Being outside calms her down – looking at the trees and cars go by. She has discovered bath toys and freaks out when I take it away to wash her. [Week 25] Poor girl, her first real cold/cough! She experienced her first 4th of July and had fun watching the fireworks – she wasn’t spooked by the noise. The smiles and giggles continue! She’s very vocal during story times. Sydney is very social and does well even when she is late for, or misses, a nap. She LOVES to laugh at Seoul! She stares at the doorways when someone leaves, waiting for their return.
4 Months Old - [Week 18] Happy 4-month birthday! Well-baby apt: 15 lbs 9 oz, 25-1/4” long! She rolled over on her “birthday” intentionally! Looking out the window at the leaves moving in the wind really calms her down. She doesn’t mind lying on her back if there are things to look at or play with. Sydney is really lengthening out and looking chubby mostly in the cheeks – love them! She sleeps without being swaddled these days. [Week 19] Lots and lots of bubbles come out of this girl’s mouth! She is great at blowing raspberries. I’m really finding her ticklish spots and she loves the tickling rhymes. She could possibly become a thumb-sucker… [Week 20] Miss Social makes friends wherever she goes! She is really starting to get into story time – watching the other kids and looks like she’s listening to the stories. When she gets a bit grumpy I’ve learned she wants to be standing. Instead of cooing or “talking” she makes funny animal grunts. [Week 21] Lots of great tummy time today! She puts her arms back and arches her body to balance on her tummy like Superman. She smiles and giggles when she’s lifted in the air over our heads. This week she is back to eating every 3 hours on the dot… maybe a growth spurt? We measured and think she’s almost an inch longer than her 4 month appt.
3 Months Old - Week 13 (4/5): Sydney is really starting to giggle! She likes to watch what Seoul is doing. She has thrown a few 9 hour nights in the mix. Sydney tried out the crib for a couple naps... until Seoul woke her up. Happy 3-month birthday! Week 14 (4/12): Sydney has really strong legs and can lift up her bum to almost flip herself over. She is really into her mirror, hanging toys, and toys with faces. She was blessed at church and slept the whole time - angel! She loves to smile and giggle. All newborn clothes are put away - she is fully into 3-month clothes. She loves bright colors and patterns. She can really grasp things and move things such as small toys and her blankets/burp rags. Week 15 (4/19): Sydney is strong enough to launch her body forward/sideways. She does well facing forward in the Baby Bjorn and loves looking around. She is very social! Kelley makes her giggle and she gets distracted while nursing these days. Nights are good – sleeping from 8:00-4:30 AM pretty consistently. Days have spaced to 4 hour feedings. First Easter – she chilled with the Easter Bunny while Seoul panicked. She coos and laughs a lot! Week 16 (4/26): Sydney’s first bath with NO screaming while getting her dressed. She loves to kick and splash in the water. Everything goes in the mouth these days. She’s starting to show signs of separation anxiety – only wants mommy! These days she is really starting to sit up on her own, although still does the occasional face plant. Week 17 (5/3): Sydney has transitioned to the crib – naps sometimes and night time. She’s really into chewing on her tongue (twisting it sideways in her mouth) and sticking it out. Sydney now sits well enough to hold herself up in the stroller. She enjoys looking around at everything!
2 Months Old - Week 9 (3/8): Lots of smiles and noises! She is consistently at 5-6 hours between feedings at night. Happy 2 month birthday! - 22-3/8" long &; 12 lb 5.5 oz. First trip to the park... smiled for a while and looked at the sky, then promptly fell asleep! First illness - congested. Week 10 (3/15): Sydney has discovered her hands &; feet. She is learning to be entertained by hanging toys above her. She doesn't like asparagus :) We had our first "conversation" and it made her smile! She sleeps 6-7 hours at night and we're getting on a better schedule for naps. Now she does OK with bottles from Kelley. Week 11 (3/22): Sydney loves to look at light and the orange &; black blanket on our couch. Yay for a 9 hour night! Sydney and Seoul took their first bath together. She is in size 2 diapers to try and control the daily blow outs... no luck so far! She gets the hiccups after 80% of her meals. Week 12 (3/29): Sydney can bring her hands together and bat at her hanging toys. She has discovered she can suck on her hands/fingers. She gets real smiley and chatty in the evenings. She "talks" to her hanging animals. Like Seoul, she seems to be social and likes being upright and able to look around.
1 Month Old - Week 5: Happy 1-Month Birthday! Sydney likes to be held upright and look around. She can really grasp our fingers. Her lungs definitely work when she needs something. She loves to be held and cuddled. At night she works her arms out of the swaddle. I think she is starting to smile. Her face/body are filling out and she still likes to be in a "froggy" position. Week 6: Sydney really pushes up and holds her head at a 45 degree angle. She smiles! She cries! She has explosive poo! so she's in size 1 diapers now. She enjoys her bath, just not the getting dressed part. She is most calm when held upright. It's cute to hear her coo. Week 7 (2/22): I think she really listens to the stories Seoul &; I read. She still eats, sleeps, poops, and cries. She slept through her first snow outing :) Maybe she's not such a fan of tummy time anymore. She gets chatty and smiley every once in a while. Her legs are getting stronger and she likes to stand with help. She is always drawn toward light sources. Week 8 (3/1): Sydney had a record night of 8.5 hours between feedings! She tends to cry around 7:30-8:30 PM every night. A fluke: she rolled from front to back once. She is starting to get into a routine of eating, sleeping, alert times. Her smiles are coming more frequently! She still loves the bath... but hates to get lotioned & dressed afterward.
Week 4: Awake during her first baby time! She is really having alert periods and looks around. She peed on mom for the first time... twice! She falls asleep in the swing. She puts up with all of Seoul's "loves"
Week 3: She is really holding her head up well and pushing with her legs. She got to meet daddy's friends at work. Most nights she sleeps well. 2 week doctor appointment - she's now 7 lb 9 oz, 21" long. She had her first "real" bath and did OK.
Week 2: Sydney pees when her diaper is off... she peed on the couch! She purses her lips a lot and makes funny faces (according to Seoul). During sponge baths she likes having her hair washed.
Week 1: Happy Birthday Sydney! She is alert for 1-2 hours at a time during the day, sleeps 3-4 hours at a time during the night, doesn't cry during tummy time &; can move her head from side to side Plus as Seoul would say "she can eat, sleep, poop &; cry, poop &; cry." She hates diaper changes, especially the cold wipes. Her first doctor appointment went well - she is now 7 lb 2 oz and healthy!
